I kept meeting dogs who “knew commands”...

They’d done the classes. Their dogs could “sit” or “spin” on cue. And yet daily life felt just as hard as before.
That disconnect showed up everywhere: Exhausting walks. Dogs bolting out the door. Friends would joke that their dog “failed obedience class.” Owners would ‘graduate’ with certificates but still feel unsure what to do at home or in public.
Frustrated people blamed themselves – or blamed the dog.
They weren't failing.
And their dogs weren't broken.
What was missing was clear communication.
Dogs don't speak English.
They can memorize a few words, yes. But they don't process long explanations or repeated commands the way humans assume they do.
They respond to clarity. To consistency. To timing. To what we actually do.
That shapes how I train. Today, my work is about coaching people to show up with confidence and consistency - so dogs can relax and follow in real life, not just in class.
